My travel to Ghana has been quite the experience. Culturally, it is way different then back home in the U.S. In Ghana, there are kids working before they graduate from middle school or elementary (half of them don't have a choice). In the U.S., kids sometimes stall after they graduate high school to get a job because they we want everything done for us.
I learned that people in Ghana are very hard working. The Ghanaians are very proud of there growing country and economy, and the athletes that come from there succeed in almost everything that they do.
After this assignment, I learned a lot of the physical aspects of Ghana and how the things there really are.
I would travel to Ghana at every chance that I get.

The Dominican Republic is different than Ghana in many ways, one of them being that it has an established government, while Ghana has an unstable government. There have been many famouse movies and film shots taken in the Dominican Republic, while on the other hand, Ghana has very few.
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic was named the American Capital of Culture for 2010 by the International Bureau of Capitals of Culture. Ghana has not yet been noticed for its cultural significance.
Cocoa is one of the Dominican Republic's main exports, where as the main export of Ghana is gold, but cocoa follows closely as its second most valuable export.
While there, I will probably visit Santo Domingo's Colonial City. It has things like:
The first road in the new world
First Cathedral in the New World
Hospital and University in the America's
Columbus Palace
the Ozama Fort
the Museum of the Royal Houses
the National Botanical Gardens
the Caribbean seaside boardwalk called the Malecón
the Palace of Fine Arts
If you stand and notice all of the things that have been presearved over time in this city, you could feel as though you went back in time to when the city was more modern, and less dilapidated.

Ayew [Abedi (Pele) Ayew]
Abedi Ayew is one of Ghana's and Europe's best football players (known as soccer to those of us in America). During his career he played for Germany, Switzerland, Italy, and France. Ayew was an important part of the French football team when they won the UEFA Champions League in 1993. He played with the Ghana football team (also known as the Black Stars) in the 80's and 90's, but Ghana was not fortunate enough to make it to the FIFA World Cup. Since that time, Ayew has become one of Africa's most important ambassadors.
When I interviewed Ayew with these five questions he replied:
1) Do you think that you have succeeded in your life?
A) Yes, I have participated in everything that I could dream of as a kid, and I am still young! (added humor)
2)How have you impacted the lives of others around you?
A) Hopefully I have given the small children of my country a dream to live up for. I want them to believe that they can do what they set their lives to.
3)Can you give me any helpful advise about how to live up to you?
A) Just go full out in everything that you participate in, don't quit halfway.
4)Do you think that living 'out of the ordinary' like you do is a bad thing?
A) No, it is a good thing because I can see how all of my hard work is paying off.
5)How would you say your life is over-all?
A) I would say that it is a successful, crazy life. It has its up's and down's as well as everybody's, but it is good.

Ghana
For most residents living in Ghana, the houses are more of a hut then anything. True, there are houses, but Ghana is a developing country meaning that they aren't put together very well in some things. Governmental money issues happens to be one of those. Since the government isn't the best, that means that the people living in Ghana aren't able to preform very well either, therefor causing the housing to be limited. The main foods that Ghanian's eat are from the fields or from the pastures of there own. Many of the dishes are based on a Portuguese background, since the Portuguese were the first civilized people to explore in Ghana in 1471.
Ghana is well known for there soccer team also. The Ghana profesional soccer team (nicknamed the Black
Stars) has won the African World Cup four times 1963, 1965, 1978, and in 1982. Even youth Ghana soccer is world known with the Ghana team winning the Under 17 world cup twice.

Week 1 question
I will be traveling Kwadiokrom, while in Ghana. While there, I will be visiting lake Volta. Lake Volta is the largest reservoir in surface area (3,275 sq miles) and fourth largest in water volume. You would have to travel 520 kilometers to go from the most northern part of lake Volta in the village of Yapei to the most southern part of the lake at the Akosombo Dam which happens to be only six degrees north of the Equator.
Also, I will be seeing the Wli Water Falls. They range from 60-80 meters and are the largest water falls in West Africa. You can get 45 min. close to the falls by vehicle, but I will be hiking for the last stretch on a beaten path through the rain forest. While on the hike, I will have a chance to encounter many different species of animals including bats, butterflies, birds, monkeys and baboons. I better bring swimming trunks though, because the path crosses 9 smaller streams before reaching the falls.
I will also visit Busia Beach. There is a crocodile sanctuary along the coast that is built on stilts so it is suspended in the air above the water which is pretty cool. And it is next to a forest reserve so the view is awesome every way that you look. While at the beach, I will enjoy going swimming and snorkeling. The best season to do this, however, is during the winer seasons when it is dry. And since Ghana is located at the Equator, you won't have to worry about it being cold over the summer.
